43 on Main top ^
contact: Cassie or Rika

"43 on Main" is situated on Main road entering Darling from Atlantis or Malmesbury.  A self-catering accommodation unit on the first floor offers a spacious en-suite bedroom with an adjacent large living room containing 2 double sleeper couches.  There is a big screen TV (DSTV) and (a big plus for the business visitor) a computer with 24/7 Internet access, printing and fax facilities (if needed).

The living area opens up onto a large deck which gives a panoramic view of the Groot Winterhoek and Hawekwa mountains. The deck accommodates the self-catering facilities such as fridge/freezer, microwave, glass single plate induction stove top, coffee machine, kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc. and a large dining table for your late morning breakfast.

On the deck you will also find some relaxation chairs for a late afternoon sun downer, after your refreshing dip in the large swimming pool below and a gas braai if you want a conservative barbeque and beer while the cool South Easter wind reminds you that you are in the Western Cape.

All restaurants are within a short walking distance (one just across the road). Evita se Perron, one of Darling’s main attractions, is just around the corner. If you need exercise, two mountain bikes are also available to discover our charming village.

Koekemakranka Backpackers top ^
contact: Omnia Grobler

Its all about South Africa”s famous West Coast hospitality at Koekemakranka Backpackers. Run by locals, it is set in a beautiful old home on a quiet street – centrally located near all of Darling’s attractions, including Evita se Peron, wine farms, antique stores and restaurants. Darling also happens to be only 130 km from the Cedarberg and a stone’s throw from the increasingly popular Yzerfontein beach.

Koekemakranka offers dorm-style or private sleeping options and management is almost always willing to be flexible when it comes to your requirements. Rooms are clean, neat and welcoming and, above all, guarantee a comfortable nights rest.

The large lounge has lots of seating, a TV and sound system, and the space doubles as a dining area with a six-seater table for social gatherings.

Throughout the house, great artworks – big and small – grace the walls and most of it is for sale. Manager Omnia Grobbelaar is responsible for the beautiful interior decoration: opulent and warm purples, maroons and browns are punctuated by antique or aged furniture and an hour taking in the attention to details will be well spent. The wooden floors are covered in generous rugs, giving the entire house a homely, hospitable vibe.

It’s not only the dècor that’s generous; a large outside patio and lush, friendly garden in the front yard, and an equally large and spacious social area at the back, makes this the ideal place to stay if you require peace, quiet and space to read a book or enjoy a drink.

The kitchen is great for self-catering with all the necessary crockery and cutlery provided; Omnia who also runs the restaurant at Evita se Perron, has been known to spoil friends and acquaintances with the odd spontaneous dinner, so perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to dig into her pasta when you get here. These impromptu social occasions will make you instant friends with the town’s locals and is a fantastic way to settle into the area.

The bathroom is a sight to behold. Gorgeous mosaic tiling on the floor, walls and shower and aged-furniture touches give the space an artistic flair consistent with the rest of the home. The water pressure is fantastic, in case you were wondering.

Koekemakranka offers wireless internet access at a nominal fee, easels and paint for those who are in the creative mood (which you are likely to be once you arrive in this art-driven town) as well as books and board games.
